Cecile Plum asked: How long ago did you start wearing vintage clothes and why?

-I remember getting my first vintage dress when I was 11 or 12. It was an early 1960s shirtwaist dress. I think I was drawn to vintage clothes because of the classic films I watched growing up. I also remember wanting to look just like the girls in Elvis's earlier films, hehe!

Kelley Anne asked: I was wondering how you decided to start your Etsy shop and how long you've been collecting vintage?
-Before I had my Etsy shop I did a bit of selling on Ebay. I discovered Etsy early last year. At first I mostly shopped there, and then I realized how great it would be to start my own shop. My dream has always been to own a vintage brick & mortar shop and Etsy is a good step in that direction! I've been collecting vintage since I was 11 or 12.

Jessica asked: I guess I'd like to know if you plan out your super cool outfits or do you just throw them on and look awesome? Do you have a certain look you go for each day?
-I'm so glad you like my outfits! I don't usually plan what I'm going to wear but sometimes at night I find myself thinking about what I could wear the next day. I don't think I have a certain look I go for each day, but usually I build an outfit around a dress! p.s. Thanks for the award!

Tara Diane asked: What do you want to be when you grow up?
-Hehe, fun question. When I grow up I want to live in a big old house with lots of land. Have a couple kids and lots of dogs. Maybe even have a brick and mortar vintage shop somewhere in Nashville, TN. Most of all I just want to be happy.

Ariella asked: How did you and Jonny meet and how long have you been together?
-We met in the summer of 2005. Our first meeting was at a coffee shop. A few days later we met again at a party talked for hours. Then a few days later we were cast in the same play, Arsenic & Old Lace, as Newlyweds. At first we didn't get along too well, but by opening night we had pretty much fallen in love. I guess you could say it was little bit like Johnny Cash and June Carter.

BaronessVonVintage asked: Did you always know you wanted to do something related to vintage (I'm assuming it's your full time gig). How did you get into vintage (wearing and selling)? Also, how did you get so darn cute :)?
-I always loved vintage and hardly ever watched anything but old movies, so I've always been influenced by vintage fashion. I think it first hit me that I could wear vintage day to day was when I was 13. I was at Sun Studios in Memphis with my Mom and the girls who worked there were all in these fabulous vintage dresses with their hair all done in vintage styles. I said to my Mom then that I wanted to dress like that! Vintage is my full time job now, and I love it. Last September the place where I work went out of business and I just really started working as hard as I could on my Etsy shop. It really is a dream come true! I love what I do and feel truly blessed that I can make a living doing it. As far as being "so darn cute"…all I can say is that thanks to sweet girls like you saying such nice things helps on days when I feel just the opposite.

Judith asked: What is your favorite Elvis-inspired snack/food?
-Hmmm, probably peanut butter and chocolate anything! ;o)

Lexie asked: How did you dress in high school? How much has your style changed since then?
-Well, I had very long hair and dressed very 1960s. Lots of skinny capris with flats and floral minidresses. Very much like Priscilla Presley or Gidget, lol! As far as the difference now, I'm a lot more confident and don't mind experimenting with different looks.

Dizzy Dame asked: Favorite Elvis movie? Worst Elvis movie?
-Favorite….too hard, Viva Las Vegas and Live a Little, Love a Little. Worst, Easy Come, Easy Go.

Rosie asked: The age old question...Boxers or Briefs?
-LoL, um…my hubby wears boxers! Me, I like anything pretty!

Amalena asked: If you could have one wish, that you would know it will 100% come true, what would that wish be? :)
-Just to be happy & healthy and living somewhere that I absolutely love, or…To have all the clothing from The Notebook!

Leproust Vintage: I am excited for your to move to Nashville, so I will ask "when are you moving to Nashville?"
- Me too! The latest we'll be moving is September. Sooner if other opportunities arise. :o)

Gina asked: Do you cut your own hair? How long have you had it short and sweet?
-I don't cut my hair now, but I used too! I stopped doing it myself after I went to cosmetology school, strange huh!? My hair has been short since 2003, though when I was a little girl I always wore it short.

Anne asked: I'm always inspired by your photos, they are truly amazing! Have you found that posting about an item for sale on your blog helps to sell it?Do you have any tips for your fellow etsy shop owners?

-Thank you so much! I have definitely found that posting items on my blog does help them sell faster. Twitter has really helped too. As for tips, I've learned that you just have to work as hard as you can and list as much as possible. I've also realized how important good pictures are. A very successful Etsy seller once told me that it helps to be obsessive, and really think that's true. :o)

Della asked: If you could have any dress from an old movie (like a Ginger/Fred movie) which would it be?
-This is so hard! I really love all of Katherine Hepburns outfits in Bringing Up Baby. As for one dress, Dorothy's from The Wizard of Oz. That was my favorite movie as a girl!

Emma wallace asked: I love your photos! What kind of camera do you use? And what program do you run the photos through?
-Thank you! I bought my carmera second hand, it's a Canon Powershot G2. It's not my dream camera, but it works great especially for the web.
For the vintage touch up, I use Adobe Photoshop. Jonny helps me a lot there, he does something called "cross processing" and puts a vignette filter on them.

Thank you all so so much for your questions! It was really fun! :o)

Some Spring Inspiration, Saga Lova

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm very ready for spring. I came across this Swedish designer Saga Lova via Vintage Portalen. I'm quite smitten with the bright colors and sailor inspired looks! The details are all so sweet! I know while shopping this spring I'll be buying solid colors and ruffle detailing. I might even have to get a hatbox for a purse!

Have a lovely weekend!

Ask Me Anything! Well, Almost Anything.

I feel like there are so many questions I've been asked that I haven't been able to answer. So, I thought now would be a great time for you all to ask me anything you'd like. I'll do a post in the next week answering all questions, if there are any, lol. I'm so excited! Ask away!

The picture is of Elvis in the late 1960s signing autographs and answering questions ;o)

Swingin Sailor Girl

For as long as I can remember I've loved to swing. My Mom had to pull me off the swing when I was little. I'd spend hours just pumping my legs and swinging! Yesterday was the first time I'd been swinging for years and years. Well, lets just say Jonny had to tell me several times it was time to leave before I gave in and hopped off that swing, hehe :o)

1940s Sailor Dress

Awhile back I showed you a pattern for a 1940s sailor dress that I was planning on making. Well, here it is! 99% done I'd say. This is only the second dress I've ever made, so I'm still nervous about doing the finishing touches. Is it just me, or is it the finishing touches of making something that make you the most nervous?! Next on my list...

This is a 1930 pattern that a bought awhile back. I was drawn to the sweet little bows!

This one is from the early 1960s. I plan on making a red cotton one first. If I like it, I just might have to make it in lots of solid colors!

A Spring Like Day

Yesterday was such a beautiful day here, with temps reaching 60 degrees! I spent most of the day running errands and shopping for the shop, but I made sure I stopped by this lovely park to enjoy the weather. It was so nice to feel the sun warming my face! The warm weather was a perfect reason to wear my new/old 1940ish romper! I've been searching for a 30s/40s romper for quite some time. Whenever I found one I liked they were too expensive or not the right size. When I found this one I didn't even think twice about it, assuming it would look awful on me. Then I tried it on and fell in love! It's from the 1980s but really has a 1940s look. I know you can't see the top of it, but I promise I'll show you soon! I'm sure I'll still continue my search for an actual 194os romper, but now because I really don't want to wear anything else, hehe.
I'm also wearing my very favorite new jacket! Most of you know my love for cropped cardigans. When I saw this little 40s cropped jacket I knew it was perfect for me! You'll be seeing way too much of it I'm sure! ;o)

A Fab New Dress

Here I am wearing my new Jonathan Logan dress! I bought it from a wonderful shop on Etsy called Vested Bee Vintage, with an equally wonderful owner named Fabiola! I first saw the dress when Fab wore it on her blog, and fell in love right then. When I read she was selling it I couldn't believe it! So, I emailed her right away to see if it was my size, and it was, yay! I know it was a hard one for her to see go, but soon we'll be neighbors and she can borrow it whenever she wants! ;o)
Thanks darling!

The Green Velvet Shoes

I've wanted a pair of green velvet flats for a very long time. Who knew they would be so hard to find?! Well, I finally found my dream pair! These shoes paired with the 1950s dress I'm wearing make me feel a bit like a ballerina. Why I'm not quite sure. Maybe it's the beautiful neckline on this dress or the fact that one of my favorite dancers is Leslie Caron. She always seemed to be dancing around in beautiful full dresses! I guess the reason doesn't really matter. All that matters is that in these shoes and a full 1950s dress I can't help but dance around on my tippy toes! ;o)

Oh, I've added the most lovely 1940s dress to my shop today!

Birds Take Flight

You wouldn't believe the amount of birds here on the eastern shore. Every morning or just before the sun sets, thousands of birds fly over the farms and lakes as if they are dancing. All different kinds of birds, singing their songs. It's so magical!

The coat I'm wearing is another one of my Christmas presents. This one is from Jonny, and boy did he do good! It's the coat I've been looking for my entire life! The kind of coat that you don't mind putting on. The kind of coat you don't feel fat in, lol! The kind of coat that makes you feel as if you're a character in Pride and Prejudice or Ginger Rogers iceskating. Seriously, what more could a girl ask for!?

Carole Lombard

I just recently really discovered Carole Lombard, I don't know what took me so long! So, several weeks ago I found myself watching Nothing Sacred from 1937. Immediately I found myself drawn to the peppy, wonderfully silly little blonde, Carole of course. She was so full of energy and so gosh darn cute! I started to watch all the movies she was in that I could. How could I have not realized she was in My Man Godfrey!? Anyway, while watching one of her many films my Mom brought to my attention that Carole was the one true love of none other than Clark Gable. I'm not going to lie, Clark Gable is one of my top five favorite men! So, the sucker that I am for love stories I looked up all I could about Carole and Clarks. Its now become one of my obsessions. Theirs has to be one of the most romantic and tragic. They had to hide their love from the movie studio for years! Then finally they were married and lived quite happily for just a few years until Carole and her Mother were killed in a plane crash in 1942. So sad! Carole has now become one of my favorite actresses of all time. If you haven't watched Carole yet, you really must! I have a feeling you'll adore her too!

I spent the day updating my shop with 40s dresses, 60s cardigans, Mad Men era coats, 60s dresses and a 20s bathing suit, oh my!

I hope everyone had a fabulous New Year! Jonny and I spent ours watching The Graduate and sipping on champagne. Quite and perfect!

Also, I promise to have a post showing my second Christmas present in just a couple days. Have a lovely Tuesday!
